Traditional Wallpaper Installation Guide

Transform your space with ease by following these step-by-step instructions for installing traditional wallpaper.

Before You Start

  • Prepare the Surface:

    • Ensure the wall surface is clean, dry, smooth, structurally sound, and free of any mildew, grease, and other stains. Remove any loose paint and correct wall irregularities. Old wallcoverings should be removed completely.
    • Using a wallpaper primer is recommended for best results and easier removal.
  • Store the Wallpaper:

    • Prior to installation, store the wallpaper under temperature and humidity conditions similar to the final installation environment. Avoid extreme temperature changes or high humidity, which might inhibit performance. It will be easier to install the wallpaper if you roll it out and leave it to stretch overnight.
  • Freshly Painted Walls:

    • Freshly painted walls must cure for at least 30 days before hanging wallpaper to ensure the surface is completely dry.
  • Using Wallpaper Paste:

    • Our wallpaper is non-pasted and should be hung using traditional hanging methods with wallpaper paste or glue suitable for non-woven wallpapers. The "Paste the Wall" (PTW) method is recommended.

Keep in Mind

  • Wear Cotton Gloves:

    • Use cotton gloves when installing the wallpaper to avoid leaving fingerprints on the design.
  • Clean Spills Immediately:

    • If any colored liquids get on the wallpaper, clean them off immediately with a damp soft cloth or sponge. Deeply colored liquids like wine or coffee may not come off completely.
  • Cutting the Wallpaper:

    • Use a sharp paper knife and a ruler to avoid tearing the paper.
  • Avoid Harsh Tools:

    • Do not use harsh squeegees, as they can scratch and damage the design.
  • Removing Wallpaper:

    • Non-woven wallpapers can be removed easily with a steamer or similar device. Simply apply steam to the wallpaper and peel it off slowly from the wall.
  • Surface and Removal Disclaimer:

    • We cannot be held responsible for damaged surfaces or difficulty of removal as the wallpaper has been tested successfully on various surface types and conditions.

Installation

  1. Gather Your Tools:

    • To install the wallpaper, you will need: wallpaper, wallpaper paste/glue for non-woven wallpapers, sponge, straight edge, craft knife, brush or roller, seam roller (optional), and a flexible smoothing tool with round corners - avoid using any harsh smoothing tools as they will damage the wallpaper.
  2. Layout the Panels:

    • Lay out the panels before you start to verify the positioning of the wallpaper. Walls are not always perfectly straight, so find a level spot on your wall.
  3. Apply Adhesive:

    • Using a brush or roller, apply adhesive to the area of the wall where the first panel will be placed. Avoid pasting the entire wall at once to prevent the adhesive from drying. Apply adhesive along with subsequent panels.
  4. Position the First Panel:

    • Slide the first panel into position starting from the top and ensure it is straight. Leave half an inch on the top and bottom for trimming if possible. Be careful not to get glue on the design. If that happens, clean it off immediately with a damp cloth/sponge.
  5. Smooth the Paper:

    • Use a smoothing tool to gently smooth the paper from top to bottom. Smooth the wallpaper from the middle out to the sides of the roll, removing any air bubbles that may have formed.
  6. Apply Subsequent Panels:

    • Apply the next panel in the same manner. Be sure to match the pattern on the wall at eye level and butt the seams tightly together without overlapping.
  7. Remove Excess Adhesive:

    • Quickly remove any extra adhesive from the seams with a damp microfiber cloth. For a perfect result, roll the seams with a seam roller to ensure good adherence to the wall.
  8. Trim Excess Wallpaper:

    • Use a craft knife to carefully cut around electrical sockets and trim the excess wallpaper from the top and bottom of the wall.
  9. Final Steps:

    • After the wall is complete, avoid drafts and temperature/humidity changes for 24 hours to ensure the wallpaper adheres properly.
